Working from home is many people's goal. No traffic, no train delays, no office politics. But if you’re going to work from home full or part time, your work area needs to be carefully planned to make it comfortable and functional. By making some simple changes to either an existing office or when planning a new design, your choices of furniture are now possible to create an office space that can blend in to your house, especially when space is limited. If your office will be in an existing room, such as a living or dining room, the use of a divider of some sorts will allow the room to be used for both purposes at the same time. Modular cube units are idea for this. Mix the cubes so that some face the office and others face the living space. If you prefer something softer, then a screen is a better choice. To save on costs, look for or make a screen using materials that match the decor of the room. When selecting a desk, look for one that will allow you to close up sections, or the entire desk, with out putting anything away. This will allow you to leave you work undisturbed and be able to pick back up the next day. Also, having a desk that allows you to pull sections out will provide more room to work, when space is tight, and will provide sufficient storage when needed. If adding a desk is not possible and you’re sharing your office in a dinning room, you could use your dinning room table as your daytime desk and add a sideboard or small table with shelves for storing paperwork at the end of the day. One essential aspect to the work area is lighting. The best light to work with is a directional light that can angle to illuminate your work area. The room should also have good natural light or artificial ambient light during the day or evening, so the contrast between the brightness of the computer screen and the rest of the room is never too great. The use of overhead or wall lights will balance the lighting. If your work area is shared with another area, it is more important than ever to be well organized. If you do not have a desk to store pens, paper, rulers and every other essential items, consider using furniture like file cabinets that can used to store these items. Shelves can be used for books, box files, and magazines that can be fitted with a blind to hide them when you’re not working. When looking for a desk that will be your computer work area, make a list of all the computer peripherals that you will be using. Make sure the desk is wide enough to accommodate a monitor if a flat panel monitor is not an option. The monitor should be at eye level for best comfort. If you are thinking of enclosing your PC, be sure there is ample air flow to prevent overheating. Look for a desk that has a low keyboard shelf with a sliding tray that can be pulled out when needed. A good desk will also include shelves for adding other components such as printers, scanners, zip drives and wireless routers. Most of all make sure the chair you choose will be comfortable and adjustable for spending long house in front of the desk. Buying a U shaped desk could turn out to be the right choice. Aim to spend as much money as you can and economize elsewhere. Having a home office that blends into an existing room is possible without making dramatic changes. Best of all, you can do it without spending a fortune and enjoy working from home!

A living room modular sectional sofa is likely to outlive a lot of things-from the family car and microwave to the kids' trendy hairstyles. Most people keep a sofa from six to 15 years before buying something new. In a recent survey by Furniture/Today, a leading trade publication, more than half of consumers in the market for a new sofa were replacing one that was 10 years old or more. If you are one of those consumers-or soon will be-here are some tips on how to choose your next sofa wisely. According to Paula Hoyas, vice president of upholstery merchandising for La-Z-Boy, it is important to pay careful attention to the quality elements that give a piece its lasting power. Read the fine print Before you buy, be sure to read the fine print in the warranty. Note what is included and how long the company guarantees the product. For instance, La-Z-Boy offers a 10-year limited warranty on the cushions of all pieces within its Inspired Living collection. The duration of this warranty reflects the collection's quality craftsmanship. Hoyas also points to this collection as an example of how mainstream furniture manufacturers are bringing the fashion-forward looks consumers see in magazines and designer showrooms onto retail floors-but at much more affordable prices. Know what's on the inside There are a number of high-end standards that mean more than just good looks. Down, for instance, is a great indicator of quality and comfort. Down-proof ticking used in pillows and seat backs adds a desirable "crinkle" effect upon sitting. Choosing down-blend seat cushions will provide an even more luxurious sit. Soft padded outside arms and back also add to the overall comfort of the piece. Note what's on the outside If you want a sofa to make a great visual impression for years to come, look for the following cues: Deep decking (the fabric under the seat cushions) to ensure that only the sofa's primary fabric is revealed when sitting. Six inches is ideal. Welting (the cotton cord covered with fabric that is sewn along the seams of the upholstered frame and cushions) that is straight and free of puckers. Skirts that hang smoothly with crisp corners. Fabric patterns that are matched seat to cushion to back to frame. Make a statement The more your new sofa speaks to your personal style, the more likely it will stand the test of time. Hoyas suggests starting with a classically designed frame and adding personal flair with custom touches. "With the wide array of optional accents available today, consumers can create one-of-a-kind designs," she says. Try before you buy You should put your furniture to the "sit" test before you buy. This test is the best and simplest way to judge the overall comfort of any sofa or chair. If your at-home seating style includes sprawling, flopping and stretching out-and whose doesn't?-then these should be part of your test. Finally, Hoyas recommends buying products with brand names you know and trust. Also, buy from a reputable furniture dealer, one that has been recommended by colleagues, family or friends.

If you were looking to make a unique statement or enhance the attractiveness of a home’s exterior appearance then French doors would be the popular way to go. Some homeowners elect to install French doors in the interior of their home and use them to provide access to a formal dining or living area. French doors installed for exterior access usually overlook a garden or yard/deck area. In home and garden magazines, it’s common to see French doors overlooking a colorful garden populated by wildflowers, exotic plants and garden furniture. Lanai doors utilize a similar approach, which is designed to bring the outdoors in. This provides a sense of artistic loveliness that one might associate with a picture. Lanai door craftsmanship is a reflection of the care put into handcrafted materials. The doors can be shaped, cut and measured to fit any opening, which include the corner of a house. French doors cannot compete with the unique ability of a wrap around Lanai door. Glance at your breakfast nook; imagine the rare experience of a wrap around glass door that fits right into that nook. Lanai doors have the added benefit of their bi-folding application. Opening the Lanai doors can meld the patio and dining area into one. The transition from interior to exterior is seamless. Fill Your Home with Light Unlike French Doors, Lanai doors are not limited by the space availability or thickness of the walls. Installation is reasonable in most areas of wall space including around corners. Therefore, Lanai Doors are much more versatile than traditional French doors. Typical exterior access on the rear of the home often comes from the dining or kitchen areas. Most exterior rear entrances look out over a backyard, a deck or a garden. Because typical French doors swing inwards or outwards, they create a usable space reduction. In the dining area, for example, a set of French doors may inhibit the placement of a dining table and other dining area furniture. Lanai doors are not similarly inhibited by such special requirements. The bi-folding aspect of the doors allows them to be opened without sacrificing interior or exterior space. Modern Elegance Lanai doors offer all the modern elegance of the French door with the unique space considerations that will not limit their decorative options. This becomes even more important in the rapid spread of housing developments, which often feature cookie cutter houses. Lanai doors will make a house stand out in contrast to the details of the surrounding neighbors. French doors are considered an upgrade in most housing developments – the Lanai doors will be an upgrade above and beyond what the French door can offer. Ultimately, French doors cannot compete with the Lanai doors. This does not make the Lanai door better than the French door – because this is a subjective choice that must be made by the homeowner. Lanai doors offer more in the way of flexibility for both interior and exterior space requirements. They also offer a look that is different and unique. Mixing exterior beauty with interior design is part of the Lanai door. Homeowner’s Choice Which door is the best choice for the modern home? Only the modern homeowner can answer that question. Efficient use of space that provides a seamless transition from the inside to the outside is one of the design features of the Lanai doors. A standout home is one that the homeowner invests time and energy into – Lanai doors provide an ideal investment for the homeowner that wants to make their home stand out. A successful shower installation requires careful planning and a lot of work. In most cases, you will need to do three types of tasks: framing walls, installing the plumbing, and finishing walls. Preparation Firstly, you must decide on the type of shower that you wish to install. It is important to ascertain whether the chosen shower is capable of coping with certain systems and can regulate a safe level of water through the boiler. Most shower units nowadays are designed to be flexible to different water pressures (such as stored hot water and cold mains). It is also important to take into account the water pressure and the planning of the piping and drainage for the shower Different Types of Shower Units Push-on Mixer: The hose and spray parts of the push-on mixer shower unit can be connected to the bath tap as per your requirement, and the water temperature can be adjusted via the taps. Push-on mixers are cheap and extremely simple to install. However, although the hose connection is simple, it is easily dislodged. Additionally, it is inconvenient to adjust the temperature. Bath/Shower Mixer: The hose and spray of this type of shower are combined with a bath mixer tap, and the temperature can be adjusted through the bath taps. It is a very cheap option and no extra plumbing is involved. However, the bath/shower mixers also suffer from inconvenient temperature control options. Manual Mixer: The hose and spray of a manual mixer shower unit are a part of the wall unit and the hot and cold water supplies are connected to a single valve The temperature and pressure of the water are controlled through either one or a variety of knobs (in more expensive showers). Although temperature control is much easier in manual mixer types, they are more expensive than the previously mentioned mixers. They also require additional plumbing of hot and cold water supply pipes. Thermostatic Mixer: The hose and spray of this shower type are a part of the wall unit and the hot and cold water supplies are connected to a single valve here too. It is complete with a built-in stabiliser to self-adjust the water temperature and to prevent it from becoming too hot. One of the biggest advantages of a thermostatic mixer shower type includes convenient temperature control. However, it is the most expensive of the different mixer options. Power Shower: A power shower is a single unit containing a powerful electric pump that is capable of altering both the water pressure and temperature. This type of shower can be fitted if there is water supply from a cold water cistern and a hot water cylinder. A power shower makes the adjustment of both pressure and temperature easy. On the other hand, it is unsuitable for water heated directly by the shower or where the water is supplied by a combination boiler under mains pressure. Electric Shower: An electric shower is plumbed into a mains cold water supply and it heats the water electrically. It is important to note that for this shower type to be installed, the mains pressure needs to be at least 0.7kg/sq cm (10lb/sq in). The unit allows the temperature and pressure to be adjusted via a knob. Models with temperature stabilisers are better as they remain unaffected by other taps elsewhere in use within the household. A major drawback of electric showers is that the control knob only allows for the option of high temperatures at less pressure, or lower temperatures at a greater pressure. This is problematic in the winter season when the spray is often weak and the mains water is colder. However, this problem is tackled in some models which are available with a winter/summer setting. Method Depending on the type of shower you wish to install, the shower head must either be fitted in order to avoid its contact with the water in the bath below or the base tray, or it must have a check valve. Before starting, it is advisable to mark the positions of the shower head and control, and to plan the pipe-work involved. Additionally, the drainage system to remove the waste water will need to be planned. Both positions of the cable route and the shower switch will also need to be considered if an instantaneous or electric shower unit is being installed. Use the instruction guide provided with the shower unit to fit the shower control. Keep in mind, that at this stage you should also decide whether you want to install extra accessories such as a shower diverter valve. Extras like the shower head extension arm can always be attached later. Before fitting the pipes that will supply the water to the shower system, it is important to cut off the water supply. In order to protect the pipes, they should be given a waterproof covering and also fitted with isolating valves. The pipes can then be buried into the wall and plastered over to neaten the overall look. Fit the base tray, shower head, and fittings. Connect the main shower control to the pipes that will be supplying the water (This may require a female screw thread adapter). Reconnect the water supply and test the pipes for any leaks, as some may need tightening. If you are installing an electrical shower, remember to switch off the electricity supply before making any electrical connections. Once these connections have been made (there should be guidance within the instruction manual), the power supply can be switched back on. Adjusting Water Pressure to Suit Your Shower The cold water reservoir can be lifted to a greater height (sometimes as little as 150mm (6inches)) by fitting a strong wooden support beneath it - possibly composed of struts and blockboards. If you choose this option, the main and distribution pipes will also have to be raised to meet the new height of the reservoir. Alternatively, a booster pump (a single pump or a dual/twin pump) can be fitted. Whichever type is chosen, it must be connected into the power supply in order to operate. Piping and Drainage It is best to use 15mm diameter supply pipes, and make the runs to the shower as short and straight as possible so as to maintain maximum pressure and minimise heat loss. Additionally, by minimising the use of elbows for pipe corners, you can decrease the resistance in the flow of the water supply. You can achieve this by bending the pipes instead. Most Common Mistakes # Violating or ignoring local code restrictions. # Using pipes that are too small. # Attaching copper to galvanized without using a brass or dielectric fitting between the two. # Not using tape or pipe compound at threaded joints. # Not leveling your fixtures when installing them. # Not installing an air gap filling for fixtures. # Cutting supply stub outs too short to install the shutoff valves onto after the finished wall is in place. # Not properly aligning tubing into fittings or stop valves. (Forcing the nut onto the compression ring at an angle when the tubing is at an angle will cause a leak.) # When turning the water back on in your home, always run the outside hose valve or flush your toilets to bleed dirt and air from the lines. This debris can cause problems in your sink faucets and other plumbing trim.

Unless you’re mounting your new 42 inch LCD TV on the wall or on the ceiling, you’ll need a solid and reliable piece of quality media console furniture to support it. Many TVs come furnished with an appropriate stand, but some require that the stand be purchased separately. If the manufacturer furnishes your 42 inch LCD TV stand, and it meets your needs in terms of styling, you’re in great shape. Because your 42 inch LCD TV could become an integral part of the room’s decorating scheme, though, you may choose to purchase a stand that matches the needs of your viewing habits, your home, and your sense of style. Because a 42 inch LCD TV is reasonably heavy, the most important requirement is that any stand must handle the weight of your particular 42 inch LCD TV and must provide a stable base in case it’s bumped or jarred. For that reason, make sure the stand you purchase meets the unique weight and strength requirements of the 42 inch LCD TV you purchased. The last thing you want to have happen is for your new TV to become damaged simply because your stand wasn’t up to the task. The owner’s manual for your 42 inch LCD TV will specify all the requirements of a suitable and effective TV stand for that model. There are a few other considerations besides strength, though. Let’s look at a few other decisions you’ll want to make to ensure you get the maximum enjoyment from your 42 inch LCD TV. 1. Determine if the stand needs to hold other audio-visual equipment? If you own a DVD player, use a cable converter, have game systems like an Xbox or a PS2, and/or have a home theater system, you may want your stand to house that equipment as well as support the 42 inch LCD TV itself. Make sure you pick a stand that has shelves or compartments for the equipment you own, or even may someday own. 2. Determine if the stand will position your TV at an optimal viewing height. The height of the TV is an individual choice – make sure the stand you select will place your 42 inch LCD TV at the height you want. If you can, find an adjustable stand that gives you some flexibility. If not, determine the right height for you and select an appropriate height stand. An easy way to calculate your optimal height is to sit in your favorite chair or couch and determine how high your eye level is. Once you’ve determined eye level, make sure your 42 inch LCD TV will be centered at that point. Many stands are pre-engineered to approximate an appropriate viewing level for the average person, but make sure you’re comfortable with that height before you make a purchase. Some pedestal stands are adjustable; if you don’t need storage space, check out a pedestal stand. 3. Check to see if the stand has integrated cable management. If you’re buying a cabinet with a closed back, cable management probably isn’t an issue, since you’ll have plenty of space to hide cables. If you’re interested in a pedestal stand or a stand with an open back, make sure there are provisions built in to hide all the cables you may have. If you have a home theater, video gaming system, DVD player, and other components, you’ll have a large number of cables running from component to component – make sure the stand gives you plenty of room to store those cables out of sight. The stand shouldn’t just house your 42 inch LCD TV – it should handle all the cables and components, too. Once you’ve found the right 42 inch LCD TV, finding a stand suits your needs and fits you’re your room’s décor and design is important, too. Make sure you can enjoy your TV while it’s turned on, and how it looks when it’s not turned on. For a choice of stylish A/V furniture check out Bello TV Stands.

Folks who have carpets and area rugs know that cleaning is crucial to enjoy you're rug for a long time . It also guards the visual aspect of the carpet looking new and unstained. There are a lot of ways used to clean carpet and rugs specified steam cleaning or the dry method. Steam cleaning is the most general method since it extracts the liquid shampoo which is employed for cleaning. Almost all carpet stains are really not that hard to get out, and a carpet fixing liquid will do the job easily and rapidly. Be aware to follow the directions of the product cautiously, and try it out on a piece of fabric or small area to assure that it will not harm the color of the carpet. Also keep in mind, not all carpeting repair liquids do the job well with particular carpets such as Persian or other sorts of costly kinds. If you purchase a really expensive, scarce, carpet, make certain you know how to maintain it to keep off any stress. Other, rug cleaner liquids reverse the spilling/staining process easy and brings back the color to the carpet. A dust sucker after using the liquid will eliminate whatever lose dirt there is on the carpet. A few carpet cleaning liquids can still repair color to a carpet if it's been tarnished by exposure to sunlight! For smutty spills or smears, you need to have the next on hand : an absorptive sponge, paper towels, rubbing alcohol, ammonia water, a dull knife, ace tum and peroxide. Use the towels promptly when a spill occurs, to soak up the stain and preclude further damage. After a bit of work, you'll see the dents come out easy. Candle wax can be attended of in a identical way. Warm the wax up with a steam iron ( again, do not make contact the rug) then get rid of as much wax as possible. When you are done doing that, lay a paper towel over the surface area and iron on the paper. The wax is melting and binds the paper, and the wax will be gone after a few more applications. How you style a bathroom depends on a number of factors. First, there is the general style of your home. If everything in your home has a classic country sort of feel, having an ocean theme in your bathroom may seem out of place. Second, there's the concept of the feel you want to create with the bathroom. For kids, you may choose a fun, cartoon theme; for those who are looking for a relaxing atmosphere, a place where it's possible to fully unwind at the end of a long day, peaceful colors like those in a spa would be ideal. Similarly, the types of colors that you're like - along with the overall brightness of your bathroom - can determine whether you look for brightly colored accessories or those that are muted in color, such as black bath accessories. If you are courageous though, you could even go for something as extraordinary as pink bath accessories. Finally, there's your personality, or the personality of the person who will be using the bathroom the most. In general, there are four styles that are commonly used when accessorizing the bathroom - classy, muted, bright and fun. In a classy bathroom, you may find yourself choosing bath accessories in muted colors, perhaps with a subtle floral tone. Toilet seat covers, towels, bath mats as wall as bath accessories for the counter - a soap dish or soap pump, a toothbrush holder and such - can all be coordinated with the shower curtain. You may start with a shower curtain that is a neutral color like beige with a rose colored embellishment and match the other bath accessories to the rose shade. If instead you were trying to create a muted look in your bathroom, you're likely to choose soft tones as well, but rather than a floral look, you may choose slightly more modern bath accessories like those that you might find at a spa retreat. Muted shades of green or blue, natural colors that resemble stone or clay are all good base colors for your bathroom. Consider a solid color shower curtain or one that is patchwork - squares of complementary colors. Choose a matching bath rug, bath towels, a toilet seat to match and simple chrome plated or brushed nickel bathroom accessories. Alternately, if bright, modern colors appeal to you, you'll find that bright, single colored shower curtains, window dressings, bath towels and shower mats can create a crisp, modern look. From using a number of different bright, solid colors in your bathroom to choosing the same pieces that feature bright colors in geometric patters or simple stripes, you'll find that you are able to bring the look of your bathroom together, to create a bright theme even if the items don't necessarily match. Using blocks of color can be fun, but for some it's just not fun enough. Whether you're accessorizing the bathroom for kids or just for those who are young at heart, sometimes you just feel playful. You may make the choice to use a bright, aquarium theme for your bathroom - tropical fish on the shower curtain, bright towels with a wave-like geometric pattern, a fish shaped bath mat or even an acrylic toilet seat designed to look like a fish bowl (complete with colorful fish). You might choose dolphins, or even cartoon characters as the central theme for your bathroom. For example, someone who still carries a fondness for Betty Boop may decide to use the character as a theme for his or her bathroom. A Betty Boop shower curtain and bath accessories set with a toothbrush holder, a trash can and a soap dish could be used with red or black towels and a red or black bath mat and toilet seat. Of course, these aren't the only four styles for a bathroom; whatever your interests are, whatever inspires you, that's going to be the foundation for decorating your bathroom. Whether you choose colorful flowers, solid colors, muted tones or something altogether different - a clean, modern look using all white for example - it's the small details that bring it all together. Choosing bath towels that don't quite fit in with your chosen color scheme, combining an aquarium theme toilet seat with a bamboo shower curtain: these things simply don't create a cohesive look. Fortunately, it's easy to find bath accessories that will allow you to bring the whole look together - that is, once you decide what kind of look and feel you are looking to create.
